Whitecourt Community Council is a group of citizens of Whitecourt who meet monthly to discuss the needs and issues that affect all citizens of the community, and particularly those of people with developmental disabilities.

The group is a partner with the Northeast Region of PDD- Persons with Developmental Disabilities.

Meetings are held the first Thursday of the month.

Congratulations to the Community Recognition Award winners at the November 2007 Northeast Alberta Community Board Regional Conference in Bonnyville!

Service Award: Lee-Anne Worrall

In cooperation with the Community Council, the Town of Whitecourt and Woodlands County (WATS) developed a successful Dial-A-Bus System that operates within the Town of Whitecourt and surrounding area. At this point it is used only by people with disabilities and seniors. WATS is advocating that the system be opened to any citizen who needs transportation and books 24 hours in advance.

Merit Award: Lisa Sheren

Lisa has made great strides in all areas of her life. She was in a crowded basement suite but with assistance she is now receiving a rent subsidy and has a great one bedroom apartment. Everyone wants to be a Wal-Mart Greeter...but Lisa really has this job! Lisa is enjoying the independence that she has gained. Congratulations!
