Service Award: Donna Desjardins
Donna Desjardins wears her passion for people with developmental disabilities on her sleeve. But more importantly, she demonstrates her passion on a daily basis. She spent 9 years as both a Provincial Board member and a Board member with the Northeast Alberta Community Board. She is an honoured recipient of the Communicator of the Year and Empowerment Award. It doesn't matter what event is occurring in St. Paul, whether it is Special Olympics or Community Council, you will always find Donna present with her dedication and enthusiastic attitude.
Merit Award: Harold Wagner
Harold had a humble beginning but his accomplishments are great. After moving into a small house he set up a workshop in the basement with a narrow staircase. He was not able to build much more than small bird houses. He had a dream of making something larger. In May 2006 he started construction on his new 16 foot by 12 foot workshop. He had it framed in a couple of months and the whole project was completed by the end of that summer. That was not enough because he needed storage. So he added and 8 foot by 16 foot storage onto his workshop. He now has a workshop that keeps him fully occupied.
His second goal was to visit his sister in Phoenix. After surviving the rigors of getting his passport, he is happy to say that he will be leaving to see his sister on November 26, 2007 and returning on December 26, 2007. Have a good holiday, Harold. You have earned it.
