Cold Lake Community Council is a group of parents, siblings, people with developmental disabilities, service agencies and folks interested in the lives of adults with developmental disabilities.

Recognition Awards

Congratulations to the Community Recognition Award winners of the November 2007 Northeast Alberta Community Board PDD Regional Conference in Bonnyville!

Community Merit Award - David Betrand

David applied for services with Community Options in 2002. David is a very sociable individual and he had a quest for find a job and earning money. Dave applied and was accepted for the A.C.E. for AISH program. This program gave David an opportunity to increase his work skills and learn of employer expectations. When this program ended, David was unstoppable. He secured an employment position with Conex for three days a week. Each year he has received a wage increase. David is focused on his work and he has increased his independence by utilizing the natural supports he enjoys with his co-workers. David's supervisor said: 'David is a very honest and reliable worker who enjoys working with people, and has a very positive attitude. He is pleasant to work with and easy to get along with. He follows directions well and is very attentive of the safety rules.' Great work David!

Community Service Award - Cold Lake Community Learning Centre

At the Centre they believe that lifelong learning is the Right of the Individual and the shared Responsibility of the Community.

They use every possible opportunity to promote and provide quality learning experiences. The Cnetre serves adult through two different programs, LEARN, Volunteer Tutor Adult Literacy Porgram and CALP - Community Adult Learning Program.

Once a week the Centre facilitate a learning program for individuals at Community Options program. These are programs that assist individuals to understand the concepts of reading and writing in a fun manner at a pace they can enjoy. Many thanks to Melanie and Debbie for the wonderful programs that delight the individuals in Cold Lake.
