Congratulations to the Community Recognition Award winners at the November 2007 Northeast Alberta Community Board PDD Regional Conference in Bonnyville!
Community Merit Award - Jennifer LeBlanc
Jennifer has many successes to celebrate right now as she has also contributed greatly to the Bonnyville Community. Jennifer has paid employemnt at the Wholesale Club and has been there for the past 2 1/2 years.
Jennifer completed a Job Training Court at Olds College. She bought her own home last year in Bonnyville. She is a past president, vice-president and secretary of People First of Bonnyville.
Jennifer has had weight loss surgery and has managed to lose over 200 pounds. She looks fabulous. She has been saving her money and is going on a vacation to Cuba for two weeks in March.
Community Service Award - Lionel Remillard
We could not possible list all of the wonderful contributions that Lionel has made to the disability community. Most recently he played a very large part in the creation of the Bonnyville Affordable Housing Project. In the past he was a member of the Employment and Financial Support Committees, has a long career as an educatior, and extensive experience working with persons with developmental disabilities.
He was the former Director of the Smoky Lake District Association for the Mentally Handicapped, and former President of the Alberta Association for the Mentally Handicapped.
Lionel is very well connected to the political community and uses his influence to make things happen for people with developmental disabilities. For many hears Lionel has been volunteering with numerous different committees and organizations. The community of Bonnyville is a much better place to live for people with developmental disabilities because of Lionel.
