Congratulations to the Community Recognition Award winners at the November 2007 Northeast Alberta Community Board Regional Conference in Bonnyville!

Community Merit Award - Steven Bala

Steven was born in 1966 in Whitecourt, Alberta and has spend his life in Central Alberta, Mayerthorpe and Barrhead. He lives in Barrhead now and has for more than 10 years. Steven has three brothers and one sister. Both of his parents have passed away. He has one grandfather who live in Rimbey, Alberta.

Steven is very active in local hockey leagues and is working with the minor hockey team 'Barrhead Stealers' and with the WHA team 'Barrhead River Kings'. He looks after team equipment.

Steven has his own business and a cleaning contract with the local second hand clothing store. He has been active with People First self advocates and has been the Co-Chair of the Barrehad Community Council for several years. He is also a member of the Special Olympic in bowling, floor hockey, baseball and skating. Steven also enjoys fishing, camping and having coffee with his friends.

Community Service Award - Scott Robins

Scott has been a wonderful support worker to many individuals in Barrhead. He has provided many tireless hours assisting Community Council. With Scott the annual Christmas suppoer, the Community Counci display at the trade show and the car wash would not likely have happened.

Scott make everyone around him feel important as he always respects everyone and makes sure everyone has their say. Scott took up Certified Organic Farming after year of Movies, Multi-media, Theatres, Music and Exhibitions. In 2004 his daughter talked him into joining up with Blue Heron Support Services where he is still working. Scott enjoys working, reading, writing, camping, fishing, talking and having fun with his friends.
