At the Whitecourt Community Council Meeting on October 4, 2007 people talked about the following business:

Transportation

Norm the bus driver has resigned because his wife accepted employment in Saskatchewan. The Town is presently interviewing for the position.

NE PDD Board

Conference registrations are in progress.

Mary Jo will invite the AISH worker for Whitecourt to attend the November meeting. Others, not only council members, will be invited.

Self Advocacy

Dale and Candy attended the Regional Co-Chairs meeting in Whitecourt on September 22.The talked about the budget and would like to bring in speakers. They would like to give them and gift. Topics would be Friends, Fun, Help, Opportunities, and Information.

Service providers assist in developing goals for Community Councils and individuals. The point that was unclear was if they work around or work for them.

Housing

The town does not want to get into the business of building houses. But Town may want to look at developing basement suites through grants to home owners for people to rent.

Municipal Election

Dale and Candy attended the All Candidates meeting. They told them that people on AISH want to buy a house but it is too expensive. Some of the issues raised by the candidates were; daycare, hospital, transit, urban planning, pine beetle and mobile dialysis unit between Whitecourt and Edson.

Next Meeting

Next meeting may be in November if the AISH worker can attend and talk about transportation issues. If not, the next meeting will be Dec. 6, 2007 because the NE PDD Conference is Nov. 2 & 3.
