At the Whitecourt Community Council Meeting on August 2, 2007 people talked about the following business:

Transportation

Chelsea reported that the town has taken over the bus and Norman is the driver. The hours of operation are Monday – Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The bus is running steady except for Friday when the ridership is low.

It is currently being used by seniors and people with disabilities. Medical appointments and groceries are the highest need.

Trevor said the Town will be checking with Hinton to see if their route system is working. It costs about $120,000 after the income from the ridership. They will also be looking at the Dial-a-bus at the end of December to see how it is working. The Town is concerned that they are trying to do too much with Dial-a-bus and a route bus.

NE PDD Board

The Co-Chairs meeting was attended by Candy and Dale on June 9 to clarify roles of PDD staff, Board and councils.

The Whitecourt Community Council budget was approved by the Board.

The Annual conference will be the first weekend in November.

Affordable Housing

The Lodge for Seniors had a 30 units ready for occupancy now.

The Town received $359,000 from the Province to put towards housing issues.

One idea was to have grants for basement suites to be built.

Another idea was to use the money to build something and have someone else manage it like Wellspring in Lac St. Anne.

If you are in danger of losing your home Alberta Employment, Immigration and Industry can assist.

Next Meeting

Next meeting is September 6, 2007
