At the St. Paul Community Council Meeting on February 20, 2007 people talked about the following business:

AACL Conference

The NE PDD Board has offered to sponsor one family to go to the AACL Conference on March 16 & 17 at the Fantasyland Hotel. Interested families will be advised on Monday if they will be funded to go.

Carmen Lefebvre, Library Manager

Carmen Lefebvre and Rene Fontaine gave a presentation on the Library’s new adaptive computer software and hardware.

Rene showed everyone the new large print and colour coded keyboards and the new styles of mice that make it easier for people with disabilities to use a computer. The Library also has headphones for people to listen to the computer and a microphone to dictate to the computer.

Rene also demonstrated the new programs, Word Q, Speed Q and Read and Write gold.

Special Olympics

A bowling tournament will be held in Barrhead on March 31.

The St. Paul bowling tournament will be held on Saturday, April 28, 2007.

The next Special Olympics meeting is scheduled for March 13 at 7:00 pm in the Span Training room.

NE PDD Board Report

Sherry Young reported that

  • The next Board meeting is February 24 in the NE PDD Board room.
  • Affordable Housing is an issue that the Board is looking at. PDD will make a presentation to the Task Force when it is in Elk Point. The Affordable Housing Task Force is headed by the Honourable Ray Danyluk.
  • Dale Drummond, Don Shultz and Sherry Young will make the presentation about issues from the Northeast Region.

SPAN

Planned renovations cannot take place at this time due to the costs being much higher than originally estimated.
