At the Barrhead Community Council Meeting on November 19, 2007 people talked about the following business:

Social and Membership Committee

The Community Christmas supper is set for December 6 at 6:30 pm at the Seniors Drop In Centre. Help is needed to get donations and pass out invites throughout the community. It is an inclusive Christmas supper so members are asked to invite everyone they know. Other Community Councils have been invited. Greg from Employ Abilities will be the chef. Volunteers are needed to set up and clean up.

Co-Chairs Meeting

Harold reported that at the Regional Co-Chair meetings in Whitecourt they talked about Family Voices, minimum wage, PDD Conference, getting people involved, and family violence.

It was felt that the role of the Community Council is to help those who have disabilities find the things they need like housing, transportation and community services.

The new bus in Whitecourt is not self-sufficient. It needs to be subsidized.

Scott talked about the need to have a proxy when voting for someone else.

Northeast Alberta PDD Board

Glen Hennig is the new chair of the PDD Board. He came instead of Caren because he wants to see how the Community Councils operate.

Glen provided an update about the PDD Conference. There was great attendance and enjoyed by all. The next one will be in Cold Lake next fall.

The Board is working on the terms of reference for Community Councils. They are working out the roles and responsibilities.

Next Meeting

Because of the Community Christmas supper there will not be a meeting in December. The next meeting is January 21, 2008 at 6:30 in the Hillcrest Family meeting room.
