At the Bonnyville Community Council Meeting on May 29, 2007 people talked about the following business:
PDD Conference Update
Bonnyville has been confirmed as the site for the PDD conference in 2007. A planning committee has been formed to prepare a report for the NE Board meeting in June.
Funding for the conference is shared between the host community and the PDD Board. Venue costs, speakers, events, activities, materials and decore will be the responsibility of the local community. Usually local communities have raised between $4,000 - $8,000 for this event.
The theme of Active Living has been selected. The conference would be billed as an active event. Two of the sessions will be action oriented. The first session will be a warm up after riding in a bus all day. The next is on Saturday morning when participants can make a choice about which active session they wish to attend.
Ideas for speakers for the conference include Joey Moss of the Oilers Hockey Team, an Eskimo football player, a handicapped athlete talking about active living and Bernie Inman.
Affordable Housing Update
Cam reported that the completion in June or July will depend on some materials like counter tops being delivered. David suggested that there could be an open house before the residents move in.
Lionel explained that additional funds are being sought to make the rent more affordable.
Northeast Alberta Community Board
Cam and Lionel spoke at the last PDD Board meeting. The Self Advocacy Conference will be in June and their theme is Active Living as well. Community Council Chairs will meet on June 9.
