At the Athabasca Community Council Meeting on April 10, 2007 people talked about the following business:

Alberta Association for Community Living Conference: Who paid?

One family attended the conference. These costs were covered by PDD not by Community Council. If an additional family would have attended then funds may have come out of the Community Council funds. There are no hard and fast rules. Funds are often juggled to help families to go.

Budget for Community Councils

PDD and the co-chairs have developed a budget outline for planning the budget. Suzanne will give Doug and Arlene a copy of this. Suzanne will also get the costs from last year to help with the planning of a new budget. The budget needs to go to PDD by June 1, 2007.

PDD – N.E. Community Board

Caren reported that a number of Board Members are to the ACDS Conference that will be in Kananaskis. N.E. Board will be seeking a new chair as well as other board positions.

Education Committee

Guest speaker Brian Hall talked about managing finances. This was well received by the participants.

Community Council Co-Chair Meeting on March 24, 2007

Doug and Arlene went to the meeting. Seven out of ten community councils were there. Here is some of the information that was shared:

• Whitecourt has bussing. Users call to book the bus 24 hours hade and pay a user free of $3.99. The cost of operating the system is shared by Municipal and Provincial grants. A bus that travels a daily route is also in the plans. It this is successful this system could be a model for other communities.

• Barrhead fundraises for additional funds. From the money a community council community Christmas dinner is given. Fundraising rules need to be followed for this.

• Mike Balaski and co-chairs completed guidelines for community councils. Community Council will submit a budget for 2007/08 as part of the guidelines.

• The next joint community council co-chair meeting will be held on Sept. 22, 2007 in Whitecourt.
